DAO-DE/ ETHICS-MORALS
by Cai Weidong
In the Chinese language, each character has its own individual meaning
Cai Weidong has chosen certain signs from texts written by the greatest Taoists which have particular aesthetic value.
On the white surface of the bench, the verbal meaning of the overall composition dissolves into aesthetic value, which is revisited in the elements of the single characters from master Laozi, the father of Taoism, in his discourse on the harmony of the universe.
The effect of paint dripping, achieved in a natural and spontaneous way, is considered by Weidong to be in agreement with the doctrine: an echo of the appreciation of simple things and nature as preached by the master.
